There once was a girl…
My name is Giulia Mazzola. I was so sure growing up that I was doing things the right way. Then a few years ago, I came across my own awakening and found myself deep within my inner forest and no clear way out. I felt disconnected from who I was without even realising it. I was caught up in the story of the life I was living. In theory, I had a perfectly wonderful thing going: work in a traditionally “successful” job, great friends, a supportive family. I didn’t even notice that something was out of sync until I left my job in 2016 and noticed how very lost I had been feeling and further unmoored without a job title to anchor me.
Moving to Scotland in mid-winter, having to spend a huge amount of time alone and redefine what I wanted to do was a messy, difficult process that allowed me to grow so much. I rediscovered parts of myself I thought had long disappeared. As I was on the path of rekindling my creativity, a cycling accident opened me up to living with more joy + freedom. It has taken me down a path of learning to trust myself, have fun and take my own desires seriously.
My Favourite Fairytale
My favourite fairytale is The Feather of Finist the Falcon. I used to have a russian fairytale cassette tape I’d listen to before bed. This was one of the tales. It was my favourite not because the heroine got her prince in the end, or that she had to chase a prince in the first place – but because of all the magical witches the heroine met along the way that helped her. The gifts from wise women that allowed her to continue her journey. That’s the real magic to me.
